Crypto Biz: Coinbase vs. BiT Global $1B wBTC Dispute

The ongoing legal battle between Coinbase and BiT Global Digital Limited has taken a new turn with the delisting of Wrapped Bitcoin (wBTC) from Coinbase's platform, sparking controversy and leading to a hefty lawsuit. According to Cointelegraph, BiT Global alleges that this move was an attempt by Coinbase to promote its own product, cbBTC, which launched in September 2023. The dispute intensified when on December 13th, BiT Global filed for over $1 billion in damages against Coinbase under accusations of anticompetitive behavior.

Court proceedings have seen developments as recently as December 18th when Judge Araceli Martínez-Olguín denied a temporary restraining order requested by BiT Global to halt the token’s removal. Despite these setbacks for BiT Global, the case is far from concluded as both parties prepare for further litigation.
